Beth

I love most the light that shines from someone’s expression when they realize something deep and true to them. That was the case with Beth. Beth and I don’t know each other well, but somehow we had a meaningful conversation during a party; the topic was about her house. She shares that they are wondering about selling it and downsizing. I ask her why she wants to sell, and she tells me they aren’t sure if it’s too big for them now that the kiddos have flown the nest. Several minutes into the conversation I say, “You know, Beth, you’ve said ‘I love my home’ three times in just a short while.” She began to ask if she had made this statement, and then immediately nodded her head. I pointed out that maybe what she needed was to have her home give back by maybe bringing in an exchange student or opening it up to someone who needed a room, which might create both a small stream of income, but more importantly it would feel like giving back. Her face lit as she said with more excitement than I had yet heard her express, “We used to have an exchange student live with us; we really enjoyed it!”

Here’s the thing — always move toward joy. Maximum joy. Whatever that is, it’s right not just for you but everyone else. Follow this joy with all your might, and when another place becomes more joyful, move on toward that!
